Gloria Kisilu

Hey there! a little over a year ago I started my first  ed-tech startup working with rural youth in the Solar Energy industry here in Kenya that I am still running today.  Prior to that, i co-founded  Shaba Markett which was an online marketplace for young local artisans to personalize trade directly to their customer’s business-to-consumer integration, and by doing so we were able to put more control in the hands of the artisans.  I have also worked as a senior vice president at a solar company where  I was in charge of the sustainable community business units and managed the youth training programming. I also hold a bachelor’s degree from Strathmore University with a keen interest in environmental conservation and business sustainability.  As you can tell I have a passion for the youth, my community and all things sustainability! While I have been fortunate enough to have worked with youths both in the rural and urban settings, I realise that one major challenge is the lack of awareness about sustainable practises and how it affects their daily life.  I decided to be part of this movement and have a strong social media presence/ voice because  I see the need in my community to have an everyday sustainability guide. Here you will find me talking about the hospitality industry that ties well with daily home and kitchen practises as well as solar energy space where I have learned a thing or ten on daily tech that we can use to live more sustainably.

Grace Kisilu

Grace here, At 24 years of age, I have seen how our environment has been destroyed by man-made activities and I have also seen how different people across the world have taken up the initiative to make planet earth the best place to live in. I am passionate about this place I call home wherever that may be for you. I found this deep passion for sustainability and participated in the 2018/2019 Halt Prize, the 2019 ASME Innovation Showcase, the 2018 Kenya SDG Ambassador Competition hosted by ActionAid and the 2018 Unleash Conference as a Talent under responsible consumption and production. I have also worked in the Fair Trade industry here in Kenya. And the proud owner of Wish Bottles which focuses on reducing single-use plastics.

I strongly believe that change starts at an individual level, that why we felt the urge to have a sustainability platform and raise awareness about issues that are close to home. We will be tackling contentious Issues such as climate change and deforestation but also kitchen gardens, home DIY’s to reduce on waste at an individual level.
